How to get to the Island: (packet pick up/race start/ finish)
Expedition Island is a small island on the Green River which flows through the middle of town. There are 2 main roads in town, Flaming Gorge Way which runs east and west, and Uinta Drive/HWY 530, which runs north and south. There are 2 exits off I-80. Exit #89 to the west and exit #91 to the east. Both exits will dump you onto Flaming Gorge Way. There are 2 ways to get you over the railroad tracks to the other side of town and Expedition Island. If you are coming from the east, take exit #91, two exits past the Rock Springs Dewar Drive exit (approx. 12 miles). As you come down the ramp, you’ll come to a stoplight that lets you go straight, this is Flaming Gorge Way, OR you can bear right before the light which takes you over the overpass. The Overpass will become Uinta Drive/HWY 530. As you come down the overpass, take the right at the stoplight in front of the McDonald’s, this is E 2nd S. Go up 3 blocks and take the left onto S 2nd E. You’ll see the small bridge to the island 2 blocks in front of you. Park your car in the dirt parking lot next to the Union Pacific Railyard on E 2nd S opposite the left turn onto S 2nd E. If you are coming from the west, the exit ramp will put you onto Flaming Gorge Way. Bear to the left past the gas stations and follow it down 4 blocks to South 4th West. Take a right. Follow the road, bearing to the left under the underpass. Continue straight, this will become West 2nd South. Proceed 4 blocks up and take a right onto South 2nd East. This short road again leads you to the small bridge that crosses over to the island. Parking will be available in the dirt parking lot adjacent to the UP Railyard on South 2nd East, but not on the Island itself. You will be able to walk over to the Island, there is a wide turnaround just before the bridge and a park with a water Playground for you to enjoy. As you cross onto the island you will see a large white tent on the right and next to that will be a camp trailer. This is where you will check-in and pick up your packet (bib)and shirt. Terry and John Pawleska, race directors, and volunteers will be there for the official check-in which is between 4 and 8pm, Friday the 19th. If you are running late someone is usually by the trailer waiting for the fireworks until roughly 9pm, if not, you can get your packet the morning of the race at this same location.
